  Children Education

Children Grades 1 through 8 St. Andrew’s Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is designed to promote Catholic teachings and assist the family in deepening the child’s faith life through classroom instruction, activities, and discussion; preparation and reception of the Sacraments; and prayer and worship.  Weekly family Mass attendance is encouraged. Classes for the 2016-17 school year begin on Sun., Sept. 18th! Classes are held Sunday mornings 9:15 – 11:00 a.m. in our school.

If your child is new to our program and was not baptized at St. Andrew, we will need a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate.

Candidates for Sacraments are required to have been enrolled in a religious education program for one year prior to enrolling in the Sacramental Preparatory Classes. Verification of enrollment and attendance is required. Records from the prior religious education program will be requested.

Religious Education for Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Are you from another faith tradition or unbaptized and feel drawn to the Catholic way of life? Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic Church?   Are you married to a Catholic and attend Mass, but just do not know how to become Catholic? Have you NOT received the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation? Then RCIA is for you.  Contact RCIA Coordinator Tammy Vesolowski by phone at 708-862-4165, or by email at rica@saintandrewparish.com

Adult Confirmation

If you are an active Catholic over the age of 19 and have received the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, but have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation, you are invited to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We will join other parishes in the preparatory classes.  Please call the Office of Religious Education at (708) 862-4154 X 12

Young Adults to Retirees

“LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME” (Matt 19:14) Jesus has a special place in His heart for children and we hope you do too!  Mom or Dad, or young adults to retirees are needed as catechists (teachers), teacher aides, special event volunteers, or hall monitors.  If you love children and are willing to let God work through you as you share laughter, the Bible, and our Catholic traditions with our parish children, please contact Tammy at 708-862-4165 ext 12 or email – ccd@saintandrewparish.com .  Being involved in the faith formation process deepens your own faith, and builds our parish community.  You will be provided with needed resources, and the children receive what they need most – caring adults to help them come to Jesus.

PREP – A safe  environment

Protecting our children has been and will always be, a top priority for our Religious Education Program (PREP). In mid December, 2011, we welcomed Ms. Mayra Flores, Safe Enviornment Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Her office ensures compliance with the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The Charter sets forth that we have clear and well publicized standards of behaviors and boundaries, maintain safe environment programs for children and adults, and evaluate the backgrounds of all who have contact with children. After discussions and review of our policies and procedures, no major concerns were noted. St. Andrew’s PREP is a Safe Environment. St. Andrew’s PREP Standards – Protecting and Caring for our Students and the Archdiocese Charter are available for review in the School and in the Priest’s Sacristy in our church.

To many Americans, Memorial Day is the official kick-off of Summer. Others think that it’s a special day because it’s a day off from work. Memorial Day –  it’s a day created for remembering the amazing men and women who gave their very lives to protect our freedom. Let us express our thanks to God for the sacrifice of these brave soldiers, and for the freedom they fought and fell to preserve. John 15:13 states, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” On the Sunday before Memorial Day, honor...

Called & Gifted Workshop

Did you know that because you are a Baptized Christian that you were given a Charism? Whether extraordinary or ordinary, all charisms ought to be exercised in the service of God (Catechism of...

Stations of the Cross

Please join us for a special Stations of the Cross, as was prayed by Pope St. John Paul II in Rome in 1991. The Holy Father omitted some traditional stations and added others based on Scripture. He believed the faithful would better be led to the profound reality of these events in Christ’s life. Our prayers will include music and a special slide presentation. Please pray with us on Good Friday evening at 7p.m.

Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus? How do you see Jesus, simply a great teacher? A prophet?  A man of great wisdom?  Or do you see him as more? Jesus calls us to be more than simply believers—he calls us to be his disciples and friends. Do you consider yourself a disciple and friend of Christ Jesus? The Gospel of John shows us that God became a man like us so that we could become like him and grow closer to him. If you want to know what it means to really follow Christ, and if you would like to have a deeper...
